MU Announces RN to BSN Program

Methodist University is proud to announce the newly proposed RN to BSN Program, which is designed to provide registered nurses with the opportunity to more easily attain a bachelor’s degree in nursing. The hybrid program combines online coursework with convenient and flexible class times.

“Our program is designed to provide flexible pathways to degree completion for the working professional,” said Jake Terry, director of the RN to BSN Program. “Registered nurses who have completed an associate degree or diploma program are candidates for this degree.”

The program’s first cohort will begin in Spring 2016, on Jan. 11, and applications are now being accepted. To be admitted, students must hold an unencumbered RN license in North Carolina or a Compact State prior to enrollment, as well as meet Methodist University’s Online/Evening Admissions requirements. The program is currently pending approval by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

According to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), education has a significant impact on the knowledge and competencies of the nurse clinician. Also, according to a study released in 2013 by the AACN, more than 79 percent of employers are now requiring or expressing a strong preference for nurses with a baccalaureate degree.

“Nurses with Bachelor of Science in Nursing degrees are well-prepared to meet the skill and knowledge requirements of today’s nurse,” Terry said. “Jobs in nursing continue to show strong demand. The outlook is especially good for nurses prepared with bachelor’s degrees and higher.”
