Methodist University Summer Jam: July 8-13, 2013
(formerly Methodist University Summer Musicamp)

About Methodist University Summer Jam

During this fun-filled week, campers will be challenged by master classes, rehearsals and private lessons. Campers can customize their camp experience by choosing from electives like theatre, conducting, piano, and many others. Campers will also have front-row seating at public concerts presented by faculty and guest musicians. All nightly activities are open for parents and the community to attend. Opportunities will also be available for campers to perform in concerts as well. The camp culminates in grand style with a final concert featuring all camp areas.

Prerequisites

  • Methodist University Summer Jam is open to ages 11–18 (daycamp or residential).
  • Mini Jam is open to ages 9–10 (elementary choir)
  • Band and strings students need to have had at least one full year of prior instruction.
  • Choral and vocal students need to have had prior vocal/choral experiences and some basic music
    reading skills.
  • Any person interested in being a piano camper must have two years of prior instruction.

New for 2013

Everyone's excited about our camp options for 2013. Campers can enjoy all the benefits of a full camp experience, the convenience of a day camp choice, or our exciting new Mini Jam, which gives younger campers the opportunity to make music in their own choir—a great introduction to the overall camp experience!

Residential and Day Camp Options

The residential camp includes staying in the dorms from Monday morning's check-in until Saturday's noon check-out. Meals will be included in this package. The day camp will also start on Monday, but day campers will only be provided a lunch. They will also perform in the grand finale concert on Saturday morning.

Mini-Jam

"Mini jam," a half day camp, is a special elementary choir offering for ages 9–10, a great introduction to our day and residential camps!

Meals

  • Breakfast will be served in the dorm lobby each morning and will offer a variety of cereals, breads, pastries, and other breakfast staples from which to choose (residential campers only).
  • Lunch and dinner will be served in Methodist University's full-service cafeteria, except for Wednesday night dinner, which will be a pizza party in conjunction with our T-shirt social (day campers will only be provided lunch.)
  • Parents and other family members wanting to eat a meal with their campers in the cafeteria may do so, for a fee.

Costs

Residential Camp (Ages 11-18): The total fee is $410.00 per camper, which includes housing, meals, daily classes, concerts, activities, insurance, and the MusiCamp T-Shirt. Private lessons are available at an additional cost of $30.00 per 45-minute lesson.

Mini Jam (Ages 9-10): The total fee is $75 per camper. The Mini Jam is a special elementary choir offering only offered during the day (no meals included). This group is scheduled to perform in the grand finale on Saturday morning.

Scholarship Auditions

Summer Jam auditions for merit scholarships will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2013. Please call 910-630-7100 to schedule a time. This year Summer Jam will award a total of 5 merit scholarships of $100 each.
