My parents and I toured a lot of different campuses. I wasn’t happy with any of them. We got a postcard from Methodist and my mother wanted to see the school, so it was the last one we visited. The first thing I noticed was that the grass was really green. The people were so friendly. It was obvious that everyone knew each other. I was interested in biology and music. So my tour guide took me to the biology department and then to the music department. At the music department, there was a recital going on. I could tell the performer was really enjoying herself. I met with Betty Neill Parsons, the director (of Choral Activities and Music Education). She was so nice. I could see myself here, doing this.

When we got in the car to go back to Delaware, I still hadn’t made a decision. But my mother had. She said, “Keva, you are going here because that professor really wants you here, and she’ll take care of you.” I’m now a music education major. After I graduate in 2008, I plan to go to graduate school and either do music education or combine music with biology and do music therapy. I would tell any high school student to visit the schools you are considering and make sure you are comfortable. Don’t second guess yourself. When you feel it is right, act on it. Once I got on campus, I knew it was the place for me. As much as I hate to admit it, my mother was right. Methodist University really has taken care of me. This was the right choice.
