Methodist University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award associate, baccalaureate, master’s, and doctorate degrees. As of March 2017, The Doctor of Occupational Therapy Program is included in the scope of Methodist University's current accreditation.

ACOTE

As a part of the accreditation process, Methodist’s Doctor of Occupational Therapy program will meet the requirements for professional licensure in North Carolina and in all states whose educational institutions already meet ACOTE accreditation standards. Methodist University is considered to be a Developing Program by the Accreditation Council of Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE). There are several phases that are involved in the Pre-accreditation Process. As the program completes the various phases of the pre-accreditation process leading to full accreditation the updated status will appear below.

The Program in Occupational Therapy will be accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), located at 4720 Montgomery Lane, Suite 200, Bethesda, MD 20814-3449.  ACOTE’s telephone number, c/o AOTA, is (301) 652-AOTA and its web address is www.acoteonline.org.

Current Accreditation Status

As of August 2016, Methodist University is considered to be a Developing Program by the Accreditation Council of Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE).

  • Candidacy Application Due: December 15, 2017
  • Candidacy Decision: April 2018
  • Students Accepted into Program: May 2018
  • Initial Study Report Due: March 2, 2020
  • Initial Review Decision: August 2020
  • On Site Evaluation: Fall 2020
  • Final Accreditation Decision: December 2020
