The Johns Hopkins Hospital is now offering two Post-Graduate
Residencies for Physician Assistants. As we continue to expand our
programs and experience, we are looking for bright, motivated, and
industrious graduates who are interested in continuing their education
with a Post-Graduate Residency. Our residents are integrated into
surgical and critical care teams, work alongside Physician Assistants,
Nurse Practitioners, Surgical and Anesthesia Residents, and work
alongside world-renowned Attending Physicians.
The Post-Graduate Surgical Residency for Physician Assistants will
be enrolling its sixth class of residents and is the first post-graduate
PA surgical residency to be accredited by ARC-PA. The mission of
this 12-month residency is to provide an educational environment
whereby the Certified Surgical Physician Assistant is trained to
provide the highest level of patient care. Training will be provided
in clinics, on the surgical floors, in the operating room and will
involve pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative care.
In an academic environment, the residents will be exposed to basic
and advanced surgical training concepts and techniques. Under appropriate
supervision, the resident will gain the confidence and experience
necessary to practice in a wide variety of surgical specialties
in academic and private settings.
The Post-Graduate Critical Care Residency for Physician Assistants
will be enrolling its second class of residents and is sponsored
through The Johns Hopkins Department of Anesthesiology/Critical
Care. This new 12-month residency focuses on management of acute
and critically ill patients. Residents can expect to gain the fundamentals
of critical care practices through both didactic and clinical experiences
across a variety of critical care settings, and become proficient
in the procedures required for the critically ill patient. Gaining
critical thinking and advanced decision-making skills while being
an integral member of provider teams are key objectives of this
residency training program.
Qualified applicants will meet the following for both Surgical and
Critical Care Residencies:
- Graduate (or eligible for graduation by August of 2008) of
an Accredited Physician Assistant Program
- Minimum GPA of 3.4 from an Accredited Physician Assistant Program
- Masters Degree or commensurate work experience
- Successful completion of the PANCE by April 1, 2009 or October
1, 2009
- Eligible for licensing in Maryland
- Possess desire to learn and self-motivation

Williams, a Duke geriatric psychiatrist, seeing patients in nursing
home settings, providing follow up care for psychiatric visits.
Currently triangle locations (Raleigh, Chapel Hill and Durham) are
visited on different days throughout the week/month. Schedules will
be set in coordination with the physician schedule and can be flexible
with constraints.
2. Dr. Williams is seeking a compassionate, conscientious professional
who is genuinely interested in geriatric patients. Familiarity with
the Nursing home environment and systems is a plus but not essential.
Years of experience can vary depending on the nature of the experience.

Harbin Clinic Gastroenterology
In general, the PA will work in both the clinic and hospital
setting. Clinic will consist of a full day (8:30-4:00 appts, usually
done by 5:30) if your physician is not on call. If he is on call,
you will have a half day in clinic (8:30-11:30 appts) followed by
hospital consults in the afternoon. At the hospital, you will be
responsible for writing up the H&P on new consults then presenting
them to your physician. You are also responsible for assisting with
morning rounds prior to clinic. In clinic, you will have your own
patient schedule and will also assist with patient messages. This
is the schedule Monday through Thursday. On Friday, the PA with
weekend call will have a half day work-in clinic followed by afternoon
hospital for consults. If you are not on call that weekend, you
are only responsible for morning rounds and then may have the rest
of the day off. Weekends/Holidays consist of morning rounds and
then helping the physician with consults if needed. Currently, call
would be every 3rd weekend and 1-2 days per week but we are actively
recruiting a 4th physician which would decrease this to every 4th
