Accreditation and Program History
The Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) has granted Accreditation - Continued to the Physician Assistant Program sponsored by Methodist University. Continued accreditation is an accreditation status granted when a currently accredited program is in compliance with the ARC-PA Standards.
Continued Accreditation remains in effect until the program closes or
withdraws from the accreditation process or until accreditation is withdrawn
for failure to comply with the Standards. The approximate date for the
next validation review of the program by the ARC-PA will be September
In 1994 the Methodist University (then Methodist College) faculty and Board of Trustees voted to develop a Bachelor of Science Physician Assistant Program at Methodist University. The Program received its provisional accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs in April 1996, admitted its first class in May 1996, received full accreditation on October 1998, and graduated its first physician assistant class in May 1998. In April 2000 the faculty and Board of Trustees voted to approve the transition of the PA Program from a bachelor’s level to a master’s level program and admitted its first class August 2001. Methodist University continued to run a dual program at the bachelor's and master's level through the Fall of 2003. Our last incomimg bachelor's class was the Fall of 2003. Our first master’s degree students graduated in December 2003.
The program is 27 months in length and confers the Master of Medical Science (M.M.S.) degree.
