The Sociology Program at MU prepares you to examine society at every level — from world cultures to face-to-face social interaction. You will learn to conduct research and analyze data, communicate skillfully, practice critical thinking and gain a global perspective. An undergraduate major in sociology provides an excellent foundation for graduate study in a wide range of fields including law, business, social work, medicine, public health, public administration and of course, sociology.
Sociology majors explore many global and local social problems including, but not limited to: urbanization, environmental sustainability, healthcare reform, violent conflicts, and unequal access to educational opportunities. Above all sociology majors study theory and research methods designed to help us understand and bring about social change. As a senior, your studies culminate in an internship at an approved local community organization, or a supervised research project. There is an honor society available to sociology majors. Our sociology club includes any interested students and supports campus events, such as visiting speakers.
