As part of our reaffirmation of accreditation by the Southern Association
of Colleges and Schools, Methodist University is developing a Quality Enhancement
Plan (QEP). QEP projects must be designed to focus on an aspect of student learning
and must be a campus-wide undertaking involving students, faculty, staff, alumni,
and administrators.
After consultation with students, staff, and alumni, the faculty of Methodist
University voted in the fall of 2007 to adopt the following as our Quality Enhancement
Plan:

Improving Student Reading Skills by
Developing a Culture of Reading
The QEP Writing Committee has drafted a working
document (updated November 7, 2008) which will serve as a basis for discussion
amongst the Methodist University community.
The Committee is currently actively seeking input from the University community
in the following areas:
- Other Ideas for Implementation
We need to identify additional methods of implementing the plan beyond the
IDS110 course, such as pilot programs extending throughout the program.
- Assessment
Suggestions for internal and external evaluation of the program and how to
monitor the progress of the QEP: We need both quantitative and qualitative.
- Processes for Continued QEP Progress
How do we ensure that the program continues? How do we mesh it with already
existing programs? What mechanisms do we use to incorporate increased reading
comprehension in all aspects of the curriculum?
