It has been a little over three weeks since I joined the Methodist community as president, and each day is better than the last. I have had the chance to meet with many of the students, faculty, staff, trustees, alumni and community leaders in both formal and informal settings. I have visited classes, participated in chapel services, and attended community meetings. Multiple tours around the campus have literally taken me through every building, on every athletic field or court, and through our more than 600 beautiful acres.
Quality universities are defined by their signature people, signature programs, and signature facilities. If an institution does not have signature people, then the other two won’t matter, as it is through amazing relationships that our lives are truly transformed. I have been so impressed with the quality of everyone associated with the university, and know that our most distinctive feature is our people with their genuine sense of caring and the way they welcome everyone to be a part of the Methodist community.
I cannot wait until tomorrow, as I know that it will be even better than today. And that’s why I firmly believe that while Methodist University is an amazing place, the best is yet to be.
