While there have been no reported cases of COVID-19 in North Carolina nor specifically at Methodist University, the University is taking proactive steps to ensure the safety and health of our community.
Dear Members of the Methodist University Community,
I am writing today to provide an update regarding the outbreak of a new strain of coronavirus, first identified in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China. While there have been no reported cases in North Carolina nor specifically at Methodist University, the University is taking proactive steps to ensure the safety and health of our community. Although the U.S. Centers for Disease Control is currently indicating that the risk for U.S. residents is still low, it is nonetheless important to recognize that much is still unknown about this virus and that the situation is quickly evolving.
Please closely review the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website for updated travel guidance. The U.S. Department of State has raised its travel advisory level for China to “Level 4: Do Not Travel.” It is important that all Methodist University community members adhere to these advisories and restrictions in order to protect the health and safety of our campus community. Given the fluidity of the situation, we should expect these travel advisories and restrictions to change, so it also is important to check these resources regularly.
In addition, I have charged Dr. William Walker, Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students (pictured above), with creating and chairing a University task-force to address Methodist University’s response to this growing threat. We will inform you of task-force recommendations soon.
