The Radio Concentration in the Mass Communications major is intended to prepare students for work in the radio industry. Emphasis in the program is on radio marketing and radio programming. Students also understand the broadcast industry and how it generates income.

Radio Concentration Philosophy

The Radio Concentration is all about responsible freedom of speech. Radio programs can be about any topic and passion as long as they conform to FCC regulations and the rules of decency.

Radio Facilities

Our Radio Room is a comfortable atmosphere where students can kick back and enjoy their craft. Our radio computer never sleeps and broadcasts on the Internet 24 hours a day. Students can schedule programming days in advance or broadcast live in studio. Our students call sporting events and put on regular talk shows. When we go mobile, we have the ability to broadcast in the field directly or record audio for later broadcast

Our facilities are in the process of being expanded and we are always looking for ideas. Perhaps you can help design our new facilities and our new look.

Careers in Radio

The radio industry is all about presence and personality. Think of all the voices we depend on to help us make sense of the world. All of those voices had to start somewhere. There are famous DJs in any genre telling us what new songs to listen to. There are political commentators who teach us of current events or just read the news. Careers in radio are very real and, while there may be a great deal of competition, the stage is always set for new voices. Maybe yours can be one of them.
