Bio:

Dr. Peter Fuerst is a distinguished medical educator and researcher recognized for his significant contributions to medical education and research. His expertise is evident through various prestigious appointments, including serving as a Professor in the Foundational Sciences department at Methodist University Cape fear Valley Health School of Medicine, and previously as Biochemistry Discipline Director at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist School of Medicine. Dr. Fuerst has held leadership roles such as Associate Dean of Curriculum and Department Chair at the University of Idaho’s WWAMI Medical Education Program.

He has been awarded multiple grants, including the NIH T34 Bridges to Baccalaureate Program, and his research on synaptic development and retinal circuitry has been widely published in peer-reviewed journals. His excellence in teaching has been acknowledged through awards such as the Wake Forest School of Medicine Teacher of the Year Award and the University of Idaho Medical Education Teaching Excellence in Perpetuity Award.
