The Methodist University Friends of Music is bringing the Outback to Fayetteville with Didg Revolution, an aboriginal music and culture group.
The group will perform as a part of the Friends of Music Guest Artist Series on Friday, Feb. 3, at 7:30 p.m. in Hensdale Chapel. All of the Friends of Music Guest Artist Series concerts are free and open to the public.
Didg Revolution is a three-person musical group that has played and crafted didgeridoos, a wind instrument developed by indigenous Australians, for a collective of more than 20 years. They’ve performed throughout the country, recorded several CDs, and produced music for numerous films including the IMAX movie “Sacred Planet.”
The group is composed of Darren Liebman, Rob Thomas and Tanya Gerard. Gerard grew up in Australia. She and Thomas have traveled extensively and lived in Santa Fe, N.M, for 22 years before moving to North Carolina in 2013 to work for “Didgeridoo Down Under,” where they have worked to help children become better global citizens through motivational messages and didgeridoo performances.
Liebman learned about the didgeridoo when visiting relatives in Australia in 1999. He bought his first didgeridoo in 2000. He taught himself to play the instrument and founded Didg Revolution in 2001.
Since 2003, the group has presented more than 4,900 shows and workshops at venues around the country for well over 400,000 viewers and participants. For more information on Didg Revolution, visit the groups website at didgrevolution.com.
