Bio:

After working for approximately 40 years in senior administrative positions for some of the country’s largest health care organizations, Dr. Brady retired in 2012 and transitioned into full-time teaching.  In his health care career, he held leadership roles for Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C., Parkview Health in Fort Wayne, Ind., Tenet Healthcare in Palm Springs, Calif., and Harbin Clinic in Rome, Ga.  His real-world experience is incorporated into his courses.

Dr. Brady earned his bachelor’s degree in English Literature and Journalism from Western Carolina University in 1972, his Master of Science in Communications from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1984, and the Doctor of Management in Organizational Leadership from the University of Phoenix in 1995.  He also earned a management certificate from William and Mary in 1980.

Research Interests:

Dr. Brady’s primary research interest deals with quality improvement in health care organizations.  His studies examine the leadership philosophies and management styles within health care organizations and their impact on patient care and overall quality.  Hospital quality is most often the responsibility of quality improvement teams and his research deals with the interactions of team members and its impact on sustainable quality improvement and patient care.

Bio:

Dr. McDonald is currently Professor and Chair of the Department of Health Care Administration at Methodist University, Fayetteville, NC. He is also Chief Executive Officer of McDonald and Associates, LLC, a management consulting firm dedicated improving individual and organizational performance across a number of industries, with a specific focus in health care and higher education. His academic background includes undergraduate degrees in Opticianry and Management. He holds graduate degrees in Health Care Management, Education and the Doctor of Philosophy in Health Sciences, as well as a number of professional certifications. He is a member of the Class of 2005 of the Institute for Management and Leadership in Higher Education at Harvard University, and holds a Graduate Certificate in Health Care Risk Management from the University of Florida.

Dr. McDonald is active in his community, serving on the Board of Trustees of Cape Fear Valley Health Systems, and was recently appointed to the Board of Trustees of Fayetteville State University, a constituent institution of the University of North Carolina. He is a noted speaker at professional meetings both nationally and internationally, and active in many professional and civic organizations. He was recognized with the Regents Award for the State of North Carolina in 2016 by the American College of Healthcare Executives. He is a member of the Association of University Programs in Health Administration, and serves regularly on certification review teams for Health Administration programs nationwide. He is a review editor for both Hospital Topics and Frontiers of Public Health. His latest book (2016) is entitled Strategic Analysis for Health Care: Concepts and Practical Applications, published by Health Administration Press. A second edition is expected early 2020.
