COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement Medical & Religious Exemptions

MU is accepting requests for both medical and religious exemptions from vaccinations via the processes outlined below. Requests are due by June 1 (for new accepted students/this includes transfers), and June 30 (for all returning students and employees). If you applied for an exemption in 2021-22, you must re-apply for 2022-23. This allows for anybody who is denied an exemption time to be vaccinated. Students (or guardians if the student is under 18), faculty and staff, must follow the procedures as listed for the requests and follow all University protocols if the request is approved.

COVID-19 Vaccine Religious Exemptions: Students, faculty, and staff must fill out the COVID-19 vaccine religious exemption form digitally and submit it via email to relexemption@methodist.edu. No other means of submission will be accepted. Submission responses will be addressed and a response will be sent in a timely fashion after confirmed receipt (the exemption committee meets twice each month). If you do not receive confirmation of receipt of your form/request within two business days after submission, please reach out to relexemption@methodist.edu. Students approved for medical and religious exemptions are NOT able to also request remote participation in classes.

COVID-19 Vaccine Medical Exemptions: To apply for a COVID-19 vaccine medical exemption, students, faculty, and staff must fill out the COVID-19 medical exemption form digitally AND submit documentation from a licensed health care provider that a required immunization is or may be detrimental to a person’s health due to one of the conditions the CDC considers a contraindication for vaccination or that there are other special medical circumstances that support a vaccination exemption. Contraindications include a severe allergic reaction after a previous dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, an immediate allergic reaction to a previous dose of any component of the vaccine, or a known allergy to any component of the vaccine. Digital exemption requests should be sent via email to medexemption@methodist.edu. No other means of submission will be accepted. Submission responses will be addressed and a response will be sent in a timely fashion after confirmed receipt (the exemption committee meets twice each month). If you do not receive confirmation of receipt of your form/request within two business days after submission, please reach out to medexemption@methodist.edu. Students approved for medical and religious exemptions are NOT able to also request remote participation in classes.

NOTE:

  • Anyone receiving an exemption may stay on campus and attend classes, but must follow all University protocols for the unvaccinated, which may include specific mask requirements, regular asymptomatic testing, and 14-day quarantine if symptomatic or if exposed to a person who has tested positive.
