Methodist University is pleased to announce the addition of the Rev. Kelli W. Taylor to its community. Rev. Taylor joins MU as the new Vice President for Campus Ministry and Community Engagement.

“I believe we have found a wonderful and talented person to serve in this important position,” said President Ben Hancock. “Rev. Taylor brings extensive experience to the University, including her background serving as a senior pastor and involvement in campus ministry, mission work, and community engagement.”

Taylor currently serves as pastor at Boone Hill United Methodist Church in Summerville, S.C. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Converse College and a Master of Divinity from Duke University.

“Methodist University is a vibrant community with a rich spiritual history,” Taylor said. “I look forward to joining the University at this exciting time of growth and to furthering the work of engaging, enriching and empowering the campus in the life of faith.”

Officially, Taylor will begin her responsibilities at Methodist in mid-June. She is joined by her husband Richard, a PGA professional, and their three sons.

“Rev. Taylor brings a great deal of enthusiasm over our vision for the future, including plans for the new Matthews World Ministry Center, as well as a real passion and commitment to support our students and other members of the University community on their faith journey,” Hancock said.

Funded in part by a $2.5 million gift from longtime MU supporters Sharon and Ron Matthews, the Matthews World Ministry Center will be the heart of the University’s ministry to the campus, the region, the country, and the world at large. The center will have multipurpose uses as a flexible recital hall, with an adjacent meeting room. The center will be joined to the John M. Reeves Fine Arts Building by the renovated and expanded Union-Zukowski Lobby and Gallery.

Methodist University’s Campus Ministry offers a diverse religious life program to interested students, with programs such as weekly worship services, communion, fellowship meals, spiritual growth retreats, forums and open discussions, Bible study, community service projects, and interfaith dialogue events. The Center for Community Engagement provides opportunities beyond basic volunteerism for students to participate in measurable, time-limited, problem-solving and community-based experiences, and is one of the pathways of the MU Journey.
