Dear Members of the Methodist University Community,
After thorough consultation with health care authorities at the federal, state, and local levels, I am changing the mask requirements effective today. All members of the Methodist University community must continue to wear masks indoors, unless alone in their offices or residence hall rooms, or dining in the Green & Gold Dining Hall. Masks are no longer required outdoors except for spectators at sporting events or participants in other organized events. If you are planning an outdoor event, please contact the University Events Office for guidance on whether masks will be required.
As I have said repeatedly, my first priority is to keep the Methodist University community safe. And, I also have said repeatedly that I want us to have as normal a semester as possible. Because the scientific evidence on COVID and on the Delta variant indicates that outdoor spread of the disease is highly unlikely except in crowded situations (sporting events), I am rescinding the outdoor mask requirements in an effort to return to normalcy where we can do so safely.
Sincerely,
Stanley T. Wearden, Ph.D.
President
