Policies for Prospective Physician Assistant Students

The following are policies that prospective students should be aware of prior to applying to the program:

  • The program does not have a deceleration program available for enrolled students. Click here to review the program’s curriculum, academic and graduation requirements.
  • Due to the demands of the program, enrolled students are prohibited from working.
  • Refund/Repayment policy on withdrawals from the program
    • Students withdrawing from the Physician Assistant Program will be responsible for payment of tuition as follows: Time of Withdrawal (15 week semester)
    • Week: Refund Amount
      • 1 – 4: 90%
      • 5 – 8: 60%
      • 7 – 12: 30%
      • >12: 0%
    • Students withdrawing from the University or those reducing their course load below a certain level will be subject to a reduction or cancellation of their financial aid. Withdrawing students are subject to refunding of financial aid monies to the sources from which the funding was received, according to the provisions of the Higher Education Amendments of 1998 for calculating the return of unearned Title IV funds. MUPAP NCAA Sports Policy: Due to the academic and time demands of the Methodist University Physician Assistant Program, student-athletes with remaining eligibility at the time of matriculation into the MU PA Program are prohibited from participating in a NCAA-organized sports team at Methodist University.

COVID-19 Vaccine Requirement and Medical or Religious Exemption Policy: Completion of 10,5-week rotations is required of all MUPAP students to successfully complete the program. The program utilizes medical centers and private practices for clinical rotations, which are known to require proof of full vaccination against COVID-19. Further, effective October 15, 2021, all Methodist University students must provide proof of a COVID-19 vaccine but may request a medical or religious exemption. Any physician assistant student who is granted an exemption from Methodist University will still be required to submit an exemption request at each clinical facility that requires the COVID-19 vaccine. Matriculating students must acknowledge that the university’s exemption is separate from being granted the same exemption at clinical rotation sites and does not guarantee the request will be granted—resulting in the inability to complete the rotation.  The MUPAP will not make accommodations for the student if the exemption is denied, which may result in failure to complete the program or a delayed graduation.
