Bio:

Ron Simpson completed his 20th year at the helm of the Monarchs softball program in 2018. In his 20 seasons at Methodist, Simpson has compiled a 483-366-1 mark with five USA South Athletic Conference regular-season championships, five tournament championships and six trips to the NCAA Division III National Tournament.

Simpson has paced Methodist to 25-victory seasons on 11 occasions, including six 30-plus-victory campaigns as well as nine seasons of national rankings.

Overall, Simpson has produced 86 players on the All-Conference teams, 30 All-Atlantic Region selections, six conference Player of the Year honors, five conference Rookie of the Year honorees, four conference Rookie Pitcher of the Year honorees and five NCAA Division III All-Americans, while earning four Conference Coach of the Year honorees.

Simpson arrived from St. Andrews Presbyterian College in Laurinburg, N.C., where he directed his team to a second-place finish and Coach of the Year honors in the Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference (NCAA Division II) in 1996.

Prior to that his stay at St. Andrews, Simpson served as the head softball coach at Faulkner State Community College in Bay Minette, Ala., for one year, after one season as the assistant coach in 1994.  Simpson coached in the Air Force from 1980-1996, serving as the All-Air Force softball coach from 1988-1996, as well as the All-Armed Forces softball coach from 1990-1992 and in 1994.

Ron Simpson is a retired USAF Lieutenant Colonel and native of Monroe, N.C., graduating from Piedmont High School. He is married to Mae Horne Simpson. He received a B.B.A. in management from Texas Tech University and an M.A. in business administration from Webster University. In 1994, Simpson earned his second master’s degree in sports management from the United Sports Academy in Mobile, Ala.
