Degrees Available

Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Accounting, Business Administration, Entrepreneurship, Financial Economics, Management, Marketing, or Sport Management with a concentration in Professional Tennis Management


Concentration Requirements

Acceptance into the concentration in Professional Tennis Management requires a minimum playing level of a 4.0 NTRP Dynamic Rating in addition to the regular admission requirements by the University.

The PTM concentration consists of 24 s.h. and other required certifications and assessments:

Required Base Courses

  • PTM 1010 Introduction to Professional Tennis Management (3 s.h.)
  • PTM 1450 Teaching Methods I (3 s.h.)
  • PTM 2500 Racquet Repair & Tennis Tech (3 s.h.)
  • PTM 2450 Teaching Methods II (3 s.h.)

PTM Internships & Seminars

  • PTM 1700, 2700, 3700 Internship I, II, III (1 s.h. each)
  • PTM 1250, 1260, 2250, 2260, 3250, 3260, 4250, 4260 Professional Seminars (0.5 s.h. each) (Select six seminars)

PTM Elective Courses (Minimum of two courses)

  • PTM 3300 Tennis Facility Management (3 s.h.)
  • PTM 3400 Sport Science in Tennis (3 s.h.)
  • PTM 3600 Club Management & Operations (3 s.h.)
  • PTM 3450 Advanced Teaching Methods (3 s.h.)
  • PTM 4500 PTM Capstone Course – Obtaining Specializations (3 s.h.)

Other Requirements for a Concentration in PTM

  • Completion of a minimum of 24 academic hours as specified
  • Certification by the USPTA or PTR as a Level Two Certified Tennis Professional
  • Certification as a USTA Official & Referee
  • USTA Introduction to Sport Science Certification
  • USTA Teaching Essentials I, II & III Certification
  • Successfully passing the following Assessments for the Methodist PTM Program:
    • Ball Feeding Assessment – Part I & Part II
    • Teaching Basics Assessment – Part I & Part II
    • Facility Management Assessment
    • Sport Science Assessment
    • Court Maintenance Assessment
    • Video Analysis Assessment
    • Statistical Analysis Assessment
    • Advanced Teaching Assessment Racquet Stringing Assessment (may be replaced with USRSA’s PRA Certification)

Minor Requirements

Acceptance into the Minor in Professional Tennis Management program does not require a specific level of playing ability in addition to the regular admission requirements by the university.

The PTM Minor consists of 18 s.h. and other required certifications and assessments:

Post-Graduate Certificate Requirements

The acceptance and completion requirements for the PTM Post-Graduate Professional Certificate Program are the same as the Concentration in PTM requirements. PTM Professional Certificate Program students must have previously earned a degree from a four-year institution and can typically complete the requirements in a two-year time period.
