A Message from the University Chaplain

Greetings! Welcome to Methodist University! Whether you are an undergraduate or graduate student, faculty, staff or campus visitor, I hope you will take the time this year to nourish your spiritual life. Luke 10:27 records Jesus’ teaching on the two greatest commandments: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself” I encourage you to love God with your head, your heart, and your hands this academic year! We love God with our head by knowledge and critical thinking about sacred texts such as the Bible and about what we believe. We love God with our heart by private acts of devotion such as reading scripture, prayer, and corporate worship. We love God with our hands by service to others involving acts of compassion and social justice. Please let me know if I, or any of the Religious Life staff, can assist you in any way during your time here at Methodist. I hope that you will take a moment to refresh your soul each week by worshiping with the campus community in our mid-week chapel service. I like to call this time a “deep breath in the middle of the week,” an opportunity to express gratitude and to find strength and peace. I pray that your time at MU will be a rewarding time of intellectual, social, and spiritual growth for you! Please stop by the Matthews Ministry Center to say “hello,” share a cup of coffee and see how we can walk together on this journey at MU.
