This glossary is designed to provide faculty with a common vocabulary, common criteria, and common editing symbols to use in working with students on their writing.
The glossary is divided into four sections:
- The Editing Symbols section includes a list of common errors in student writing and the editing symbols that should be used to mark them.
- The General Education Assessment section includes the rubric that will be used to assess the general education skills of writing, critical thinking, information literacy, and research, followed by definitions of terms used on the rubric.
- The Grammar section consists of definitions and brief examples of the Methodist University Dirty Dozen—the twelve most common and egregious errors in grammar and sentence structure.
- The Miscellaneous Terms section includes terms that have been identified as causing confusion among faculty and/or students.
