Student Consultant Program

The Writing Center student consultant walk-in program allows excellent student writers to become walk-in consultants. Students enroll in the internship class, in which they are trained, and then they are supervised independently consulting students before joining the Writing Center staff as employees.

To qualify, students must

  • Have completed English 1010 and English 1020/1040 with a grade of “B” or better
  • Sign up for Writing 4160, the consultant internship course
  • Shadow professional consultants in the Writing Center once the internship coursework is completed
  • Keep journal of experiences during shadowing portion
  • Meet with internship professor for continued guidance
  • Complete two supervised consultations
