At Methodist University Cape Fear Valley Health School of Medicine, our advising program is thoughtfully designed to support each student’s journey through medical school. We aim to foster academic success, professional development, and personal well-being through comprehensive programming and expert guidance.

Our advising structure includes two Phase Deans—one overseeing the Pre-Clinical/Foundation Phase and the other guiding the Clinical/Cornerstone and Capstone Phases. These deans provide general advising services, including academic and career counseling, tailored specifically to the medical education experience of each phase.

Students are further supported through nine Learning Communities each led by a dedicated faculty advisor. These advisors meet with their assigned students individually or in small groups at least once per semester to:

  • Review academic progress
  • Offer personalized guidance
  • Connect students with appropriate resources, including academic skills support, career planning, and mental health services

In addition to faculty advising, students have access to specialized resources such as the Center for Academic and Professional Excellence (CAPE) for individualized academic support, and Career Advisors who provide specialty-specific career guidance.
