Bio:
Dr. Karen Greenberg, DO, FACOEP-D, FAAEM, FAHA, serves as the Assistant Dean of Clinical Education at Methodist University Cape Fear Valley Health School of Medicine. She is board-certified in both emergency medicine and neurocritical care and is a recognized expert in treating neurological emergencies. Prior to joining Methodist University, Dr. Greenberg served as Assistant Dean of Clinical Education at Drexel University College of Medicine, where she oversaw multi-site clinical rotations for third- and fourth-year medical students, directed the inaugural Career Exploration Clerkship, strengthened relationships with regional medical campuses, and contributed to curriculum development and faculty engagement initiatives.
Dr. Greenberg played a pivotal role in establishing the nation’s first dedicated Neurologic Emergency Department, earning her the inaugural Practice Innovation Award from the American College of Osteopathic Emergency Physicians (ACOEP). In 2021, she received the esteemed Willoughby Award from ACOEP, honoring her as the top female leader in emergency medicine.
Her impactful contributions extend to numerous publications in emergency, neurology, and neurosurgery journals, including Neurosurgery, The American Journal of Emergency Medicine, Emergency Medicine Clinics of North America, AEM Education and Training, Radiology Case Reports, and the International Journal of Medical Reviews and Case Reports, along with having authored book chapters. Dr. Greenberg holds distinguished fellowships with ACOEP, the American Academy of Emergency Medicine, and the American Heart Association. Most recently, she was elected to membership in Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society by the Delta Zeta Chapter of Drexel University College of Medicine.
Dr. Greenberg is passionate about all types of neurologic emergencies, especially stroke, and lectures at emergency medicine and neuroscience conferences both locally and nationally. She is a highly sought-after speaker, having delivered presentations at numerous national, regional, and local conferences, as well as webinars and podcasts, to further emergency medicine and the acute
care of neurologic emergencies. Her expertise and engaging presentation style have made her a top speaker in her field. She also serves as an oral board examiner with the American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine.
She graduated from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey – School of Osteopathic Medicine (UMDNJ-SOM), receiving the Dean’s Award for Outstanding Achievement and the Award for Outstanding Achievement in Emergency Medicine. She was Chief Intern and Intern of the Year at UMDNJ-SOM and completed her Emergency Medicine residency program there, serving as Chief Resident. She also won The Foxhole Award, which honors the resident whom other attending physicians most want to collaborate with while working in the Emergency Department.
Dr. Greenberg is an Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery and Emergency Medicine at Methodist University Cape Fear Valley Health School of Medicine, Clinical Assistant Professor (Adjunct)
of Neurology in the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, Clinical Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine for the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, and Clinical Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at Rowan Virtua University School of Osteopathic Medicine.
Dr. Greenberg is an avid Tar Heel fan, having played Division I lacrosse for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and was a two-time Final Four athlete while there. In her leisure
time, she enjoys reading fiction novels, exercising, and indulging her passion for pickleball, finding joy both in improving her game and the camaraderie.
