Title IX

“No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.” — Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972

At Methodist University, we are committed to ensuring that every member of our community learns and works in an environment free of sex discrimination and sexual harassment. Consistent with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, Methodist University does not discriminate against students, employees, or members of the community based on sex in any of its programs or activities.

Sexual harassment, and all sexual violence, is sex discrimination. All such acts are prohibited by both law and policy at Methodist University. In accordance with the MU Title IX Policy, the MU Title IX Office authorizes and facilitates investigations into alleged violations, provides assistance and Supportive Measures to individuals who have been negatively impacted by sexual harassment, and provides education and training to the MU community.

Title IX requires that all educational institutions that receive federal funds or financial assistance prohibit sex discrimination in all educational programs and activities, including recruitment, student admissions, financial assistance, housing, access to academic offerings and athletics.

Title IX violations include discrimination on the basis of sex or gender and include sexual harassment, sexual exploitation, non-consensual sexual acts, sexual violence, and sexual misconduct (see section “1.4 Definitions” in the full Title IX Policies and Procedures).

Designated Title IX Coordinator

Nathan Perry is Methodist University’s Title IX Coordinator, designated by the university to oversee compliance with its responsibilities under Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972.

The Title IX Office is located on campus in the Horner Administration Building.

Any member of the Methodist University community can meet with the Title IX Coordinator to submit a Formal Complaint alleging sexual harassment, to ask questions or hypotheticals, to request training or education, or for any other reason related to the Methodist University Title IX Policy.

Same day walk-In appointments are available during office hours, and other appointments may be made by using Title IX Bookings or by contacting [email protected].

Legal & Policy Jurisdiction

Title IX applies to and protects ALL members of the MU community, including students, staff, faculty, and visitors.

Title IX applies equally to community members in the United States from other countries, like international students and other guests. While the Title IX Office is limited in its ability to investigate allegations occurring outside of the United States, Supportive Measures remain available to MU affiliates regardless of geographic location.
