Bio:

Mary Sukumar brings a wealth of expertise from her career as an anesthesiologist, in culturally diverse and international health systems and as a dedicated Healthcare Simulation Educator at the Center for Education, Simulation and Innovation (CESI) in Hartford, Connecticut. In her expansive medical career, she has developed and implemented curricula, benefiting a diverse range of learners from medical students and residents to physicians, nurses, Emergency Medical Technicians, paramedics, the Connecticut State Police and military personnel including the Navy Independent Duty Corpsmen and National Guard. Her impact extends to spearheading critical training programs, coordinating IT internships, and leading initiatives in patient safety and healthcare quality with simulation-based interventions. She is also an instructor for Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Cardiac Life Support Courses from the American Heart Association and a proctor for the Fundamentals of Laparoscopy Certification Exam from the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES).

As a passionate advocate for healthcare innovation and sustainability, she has been instrumental in creating a Critical Care Sustainability Committee at Hartford Hospital. With a robust background in clinical practice, simulation education and organizational excellence, she plans to utilize her knowledge and skills to contribute to the furtherance of medical education. Thus, in her role at the Methodist University, Cape Fear Valley Health School of Medicine, as the Director of Simulation, the Assistant Professor in the Department of Foundational Sciences, with a secondary appointment in the Department of Academic Clinical Medicine, Division of Anesthesiology, she will continue to focus on excellence in both undergraduate and graduate medical education.
