Bio:
Rob Farrell, PT, DPT, NCS, is an Assistant Professor of Physical Therapy at Methodist University. His primary teaching areas include Foundations of Acute Care and Patient Care Skills during the first year of didactic study. Additionally, he teaches Adult Neurological Physical Therapy I and II during the second year of study. His scholarly interests focus on neurologic rehabilitation and the use of active learning strategies to enhance student engagement and clinical decision-making.
Dr. Farrell has extensive professional experience as a physical therapist across multiple clinical settings, including acute care hospitals, inpatient rehabilitation facilities, and outpatient rehabilitation clinics. His clinical practice involves working with adults with neurologic, orthopedic, trauma, cardiopulmonary, and integumentary conditions. Dr. Farrell joined Methodist University in 2025. He has contributed to scholarly work examining the experiences, preferences, and perceptions of health science students related to active learning techniques in professional education. Currently, he is investigating the dual-task cost of vestibular-ocular reflex activity on skating speed in semi-professional ice hockey players.
Dr. Farrell earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the State University of New York at Oneonta and a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the State University of New York Upstate Medical University. He completed an American Board of Physical Therapy Residency and Fellowship Education (ABPTRFE) accredited Faculty Development Residency at Duke University in 2025 and is a licensed physical therapist in North Carolina. He is board-certified as a Neurologic Clinical Specialist (NCS) by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS). Dr. Farrell holds American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) Level 1 Credentialed Clinical Instructor (CCIP 1) status.
