Bio:

Shani Lewis, PT, DPT, is an Assistant Professor and the Assistant Director of Clinical Education in the Physical Therapy program. Dr. Lewis teaches courses including Geriatrics and Aging and Exercise Principles and Prescription. While her research interests are broad, her immediate focus is on patient mobility in the hospital setting, the psychosocial impact on students in health-related fields transitioning from undergraduate to graduate studies, and the acute effects of conventional and reverse total shoulder replacements on gait and mobility.

Dr. Lewis’s current clinical practice is in her favorite setting of acute care, as a float physical therapist, as well as in an inpatient rehabilitation center. She also has work experience in a short-term rehab setting. Dr. Lewis has utilized her education in fine arts and science to support her current medical and academic practice. Her background in graphic design has allowed her to contribute to various research articles and a physical therapy textbook, providing photographic consultation, images and labeling, as well as extensive photo editing for print and publication.

Dr. Lewis received her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Elon University. She received a B.A. in Fine Arts from Fayetteville State University. She is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association and currently has the following credentials: Certified Exercise Expert for Aging Adults, LSVT Big Certification, and Credentialed Clinical Instructor.
