Genesis Be will be the guest speaker as Methodist University hosts its Fall 2026 Convocation on Sept. 14 in the University’s Huff Concert Hall (11 a.m.). Convocation is a time each year when the MU community comes together in reflection and shared purpose.
The topic of Be’s presentation will be “The Moral Courage® Method of Engaging Across Divides,” and she will also lead a session for student leaders at 3 p.m.
Be is a musician, virtual artist, and poet who came to the role of “Global Ambassador for Moral Courage®” after co-starring in the award-winning documentary, “Mississippi Turning.” That production follows Be as she protests Confederate Heritage Month, faces backlash, and then discovers the power of a paradox: that she can stand her ground and, at the same time, create common ground. Raised in Biloxi, Miss., and based in Atlanta, she now travels the world to teach the Moral Courage skill set so that others have the tools to heal not just societies, but themselves.
“Moral courage empowers Methodist University students to move beyond defensiveness, listen across differences, and engage diverse perspectives with empathy, integrity, and purpose – preparing them to become thoughtful leaders who can create meaningful solutions in their communities,” said Quincy Malloy Sr., Ed.D., who is vice president of the Engagement, Community & Belonging Office which co-sponsors the event along with the Office of the Provost.
