Some of Fayetteville’s top business leaders gathered on Methodist University’s campus for the final time in 2022.

The Greater Fayetteville Chamber’s monthly “Chairwoman’s Coffee Club” meeting, a high-powered business networking breakfast, brought approximately 100 professionals to MU’s Matthews Ministry Center on Thursday morning.

The end-of-year celebration included a toy collection and a special guest speaker – Lt. Shawna Leake with Shop the Sheriff, a charity that aims to improve the quality of life of less fortunate children in Cumberland County.

The Greater Fayetteville Chamber also bid farewell to current Board Chair, Tammy Thurman.

“Methodist University has been phenomenal. The venue, the staff, and everything else has been absolutely amazing,” said Thurman. “I really want our partnership to grow. I don’t just want to build on the Chamber’s relationships with the community, but it’s time to get engaged with our students, as well.”

Staff from MU’s One Stop, a “one-stop” location for students to receive academic support and academic and career advising, were on hand to promote the University’s upcoming Career Fairs on Feb. 15, 2023 at North Carolina State University and Feb. 23, 2023 at Methodist University. In partnership with NCWorks, the fairs will allow current students and alumni to connect with community partners and other alumni for various career openings.

“These events will offer a gateway to employment, internship, and job shadowing opportunities,” said Jimarr Williams, MU’s director of academic and career advising. “We are excited about the possibilities this will bring our Monarchs and the community as a whole.”
