The Military Times has named Methodist University a 2025 Best for Vets institution, recognizing its ongoing commitment to supporting military service members, veterans, and their families.

“For 15 years, Best for Vets has helped transitioning service members find schools that not only welcome veterans but actively invest in their success,” said Jon Simkins, executive editor of Military Times.

At Methodist University, that investment is rooted in a culture of genuine care and connection. Randy Smith, director of Veteran Services at MU, said veterans know they will be supported from the moment they arrive.

“Our veterans come here confident they’ll be taken care of,” Smith said. “‘Military friendly’ is not just a catchphrase. With so many veterans on staff and in the faculty, students have a good chance of connecting with someone who understands what they’ve been through.”

Inside the Military & Veteran Center at MU, students receive hands-on support each day. Earl Eidem, administrative assistant for Military & Veteran Services, said their team works to guide students every step of the way.

“Every vet that comes in, I greet them, talk to them,” Eidem said. “If they’re not sure where to go, we walk them to the library or advising. It’s 100 percent support.”

The system of support at MU is designed to feel familiar to current service members and veterans transitioning into academic life. Rocio Serna, coordinator of Military & Veteran Services, said MU’s approach is what truly sets the University apart.

“Methodist University is best for vets because we are committed to the unique needs of our military community and their education goals, while providing a framework that empowers all our military students to thrive beyond the uniform,” Serna said.
