The Cape Fear Valley Foundation’s Step Up 4 Health and Wellness Expo will be here before too long. Fortunately, there is still time for students and the MU community to make plans to attend.

The annual family-friendly event will be held on Methodist University’s beautiful 600-acre campus on Saturday, April 15, from 9 a.m. through 1 p.m. Featuring a 4K, one-mile race, and a variety of fun activities, the Step Up 4 Health and Wellness Expo raises money for health services that directly impact the lives of patients in the community – including the Friends of Cancer Center, Children’s Services, and Heart Care.

Most of the event will take place on MU’s Duggins Soccer Stadium with the 4K and 1-mile races occurring throughout the campus.

“Methodist University is a great location to host this event,” said Dr. Trey Hoyt, MU’s dean for the College of Health Sciences & Human Services. “Additionally, MU’s focus in providing exceptional academic programs in health care makes us an ideal partner for the Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation in delivering such a wonderful community event.”

The Wellness Expo is free to attend, however, anyone wishing to participate in the 4K or one-mile races must register prior to the event ($30 for adults, $25 for children aged 4-12, and kids 3 and under are free). Participants can even register as an individual or as a team – giving the MU community a chance to participate in the event with their friends, classmates, coworkers, or any other group they would like to create. Groups are encouraged to showcase their team spirit through their MU attire. Each registrant also receives a t-shirt.

Methodist University students, faculty, and staff are able to use a special registration discount by accessing their MU email.

“Step Up 4 Health is a great opportunity for Methodist University students to come out and learn more about Cape Fear Valley Health and the services we provide, all while raising support for multiple patient care areas,” said Jessica Kouba ’09, a Methodist University Physician Assistant Studies graduate and Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation board member. “I am a very proud MU graduate and grateful for the importance that MU and Cape Fear Valley place on educating our community about health and wellness.”

For those who cannot attend the event, there is still a chance to contribute to the great cause as a “virtual registration” is also available.
