A holiday season favorite is coming to Methodist University’s center stage again this weekend.
The Dance Theatre of Fayetteville will be performing Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Ballet at Huff Concert Hall on Friday Dec. 1 (7:30 p.m.), Saturday Dec. 2 (7:30 p.m.), and Sunday Dec. 3 (3 p.m.). The performance has become an annual tradition in the Dance Theatre of Fayetteville’s 48 years of existence.
“It is a wonderful way to start the holiday season and a great family tradition,” said Leslie Dumas, Dance Theatre of Fayetteville’s artistic director. “Our non-profit provides an opportunity for locally trained dancers to perform for their community. Our organization produces, stages, publicizes, and performs the full Nutcracker consistently with the highest cultural values of the community for the general public.”
The Methodist University community will be able to see some familiar faces on stage, as each night will feature one of three readers: President Stanley T. Wearden (Dec. 1), Provost Suzanne Blum Malley (Dec. 2), and Athletic Director Dave Eavenson (Dec. 3). Each night, one of them will read the story of the Nutcracker throughout the performance.
Methodist University students, faculty, and staff can attend any of the performances for free by showing their MU ID before entering. The public can purchase advance tickets online until Thursday, Nov. 30 at 6 p.m. and may be picked up at Countryside Gymnastics until Nov. 30 or at will call at Huff Concert Hall starting Dec. 1. An adult ticket is $15 and a student ticket is $9. Advance tickets may only be purchased for one of the three performances.
