Methodist University President Stanley T. Wearden is receiving national and international recognition as one of higher education’s most visionary leaders.

Higher Education Digest, an independent higher education magazine with a widespread international audience, recently named Wearden one of the “Most Visionary Education Leaders” of 2023.

“Dr. Wearden is one of the most visionary people I have ever met,” said Dr. Rakesh Gupta, chair of MU’s Board of Trustees. “I am truly impressed by his innate desire to promote higher education and navigate the landscape that is ever-changing. I want to congratulate him on this recognition and wish him continued success.”

Wearden chats with studentsThe publication points to a number of Wearden’s successes and attributes, including a collaborative leadership philosophy, a vision for student success, unlocking the potential of online education, forging successful partnerships, nurturing relationships and well-being for student success, creating lasting benefits for students, placing an emphasis on philanthropy, and leading a fresh vision.

Higher Education Digest also reflects on Wearden’s roots as an English major and how it led to a variety of skills that have helped him find a home as president of Methodist University starting in 2019.

“I saw the opportunity more and more as a perfect fit for me,” said Wearden when asked about his thoughts when offered the position. “My skills matched well with the current needs of the university. I met many people with whom I felt an instant connection. I have felt truly at home at MU since my first day on the job five years ago.”
