Thousands of feet will be pounding the pavement in downtown Fayetteville this weekend, all in the name of a great cause that Methodist University is proud to support.

The Step Up 4 Health & Wellness Expo, taking place this Saturday from 8 a.m.-2 p.m., will welcome the community to Festival Park for a 4K, one-mile walking route, and wellness expo. All proceeds will support several patient care areas at Cape Fear Valley Health including the Friends of the Cancer Center, Children’s Services, Heart Care, Cumberland County Medication Access Program, and Community Alternative Program.

As one of the sponsors of the event, Methodist will be well-represented with at least 25 faculty, students, and family already registered for the one-mile walk – including veteran students, international students, and second-career students. During the walk, participants will be able to spot a distance marker sponsored by MU.

“Methodist University’s Nursing program has long-standing ties with Cape Fear Valley Health through clinical affiliations, partnerships, and employment opportunities for our Nursing graduates,” said Dr. Shannon Matthews, the chair and director of Nursing at MU. “Our participation in this event not only helps to enhance these existing relationships and cultivate new ones, but it provides an opportunity for our students to contribute and connect to the community.”

Afterwards, attendees will be able to visit a wellness expo, where the University’s Nursing program will host a table with information, giveaways, and a station that provides a hands-on demonstration of nasal naloxone.

There is still plenty of room for those who wish to participate. While organizers encourage participants to register ahead of time, there will be a registration table the day of the event. For more information, visit the event website.
