MU to host its annual Community Services Fair on Sept. 21, connecting students with local agencies for volunteerism, service-learning, internships, and civic engagement.
Methodist University was founded by the community 70 years ago and, to this day, remains attached to the community on a daily basis in hundreds of different ways. One of those is its constant connection between students and organizations across the city and county whether that be through internships or the thousands of hours of volunteer opportunities each year.
An annual “connection” highlight is the MU Community Services Fair, which will be held Sept. 21 at the Berns Student Center (11 a.m.-1 p.m.). This year, students may connect with more than two dozen local nonprofit organizations and community agencies, providing opportunities for volunteerism, service-learning, internships, and civic engagement throughout the academic year.
“At Methodist University, community service is more than giving back; it is discovering your purpose,” said MU’s Vice President for Engagement, Community, & Belonging Quincy Malloy, EdD. “The Community Service Fair creates a bridge between the classroom and the community, connecting students with opportunities to serve, lead, build professional experience, and explore their vocation. Every connection made is a chance to turn passion into purpose and learning into impact.”
Just a small sample of the visiting organizations this year include the United Way of Cumberland County, Fayetteville Habitat for Humanity, Partnership for Children, Dogwood Festival, Fayetteville Urban Ministries, and multiple local churches within the area.
