Methodist University will open its celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month with a Lunch & Learn on Wednesday, Sept. 24, at 11 a.m. in the Alumni Dining Room. The event will be led by Gavin Myrick, director of Student Connections & Outreach, and will explore this year’s national theme: “A Collective Heritage: Honoring the Past and Inspiring the Future.” Students, faculty, and staff are invited to gather over lunch for conversation on culture, identity, tradition, and how those factors shape purpose and community.
The discussion will highlight the historical and cultural impact of Hispanic leaders across many fields from sports (such as baseball Hall of Famer Roberto Clemente) to influential voices in music, entertainment, and advocacy. Myrick also hopes to provide space for students to share their own heritage, stories, and traditions, creating an inclusive dialogue that celebrates one of the fastest-growing communities in the United States.
“Students throughout the University are varying in culture, so we want to try to honor as many of them as we can,” Myrick said. “We may not be able to give them an exact taste of home, but we can represent their culture and let them know that we see them, we respect them, and we want them to feel included.”
All who attend can enjoy a taco bar and receive free Hispanic Heritage Month gifts. For a full schedule of CIRCUIT programs this semester, visit methodist.edu/religious-life.
