A new partnership between Methodist University and Wingate University will make it easier for students to pursue a career in pharmacy.

Recently, the two universities signed an agreement that will allow Methodist University students working towards a Bachelor of Science degree to also complete prerequisite coursework requirements for the doctorate program at the Wingate University School of Pharmacy.

While completing a Bachelor of Science degree does not guarantee Methodist University students a spot in the pharmacy program, the Wingate University School of Pharmacy will reserve three spots within its doctorate program for Methodist University students who have met all qualifications and requirements.

“As we’ve had several graduates in the last few years pursue a pharmacy doctorate after graduating from MU, it was imperative to try and establish relationships with programs like Wingate,” said Dr. Stephanie Hooper Marosek, head of the Natural Sciences Division, Wyatt professor of the sciences, and professor of chemistry. “Not only is Wingate University a smaller, intimate program like MU students are accustomed to, but it provides opportunities that might not be possible at larger institutional programs.”

Methodist University is currently developing a concentration dedicated towards Pharmaceutical Science that will provide a clear pathway for students seeking the career.

Until then, Hooper Marosek said this partnership will immediately allow MU students to build relationships in the pharmacy field.

“Current and future students will be able to make connections with pharmacy students and faculty, tour facilities, and discuss different pathways before they even begin the process of applying to the doctoral program,” she said.

Students interested in taking advantage of the partnership should visit the partnership’s webpage to find out more about requirements and the course sequence. They may also contact Hooper Marosek at shooper@methodist.edu.
