Methodist University will recognize the service and sacrifices of active-duty military and veterans during Military & Veteran Appreciation Week, Nov. 9-13, with campus ceremonies, student challenges, opportunities to connect with University leadership, and activities celebrating the military community.

Students at the Step Up ChallengeThe weeklong celebration at MU – which is annually ranked as a Best for Vets® and Military Friendly® University – will bring students, faculty, staff, and veterans together to recognize those who have served the nation and show appreciation for their contributions.

“Methodist University is a proud partner of our military-connected students,” said Rocio Serna,  MU’s coordinator of Military & Veteran Services. “Celebrating the entire week, not just one day, reflects a tradition that honors our commitment to our military community.”

  • The events begin on Monday, Nov. 9, with a wreath-laying ceremony at 11 a.m. at the main flagpole outside the Horner Administration Building. • Students at the 2025 President's BreakfastThursday, Nov. 12, begins with a Military Appreciation Breakfast with President Stanley T. Wearden, PhD, from 8 to 10 a.m. in the Alumni Dining Room. The breakfast will give active-duty military members and veterans an opportunity to connect with the University president, share experiences, and spend time with fellow members of the military community.
  • The week will conclude Friday, Nov. 13, with Veteran Bowling from 6 to 8 p.m. at North View Lanes, located at 5307 Ramsey St. Faculty, staff, and military students are invited to join student veterans for an evening of bowling and fellowship.

Through these events and displays, Methodist University – well known for offering academic programs that are perfect for active-duty military, veterans, and their families – will provide opportunities for the campus community to reflect on military service, recognize the sacrifices made by veterans and their families, and show appreciation for those who have served.

“We recognize that our military connected students are diverse in their interests and passions; our weeklong event schedule aims to encourage military students to find an event they can connect to and join the celebration of their service and one another,” Serna said. “We also encourage our non-military students to similarly find an event they would like to know more about and join the conversation while we celebrate our traditions.”
