The connection between Methodist University students and donors is a special relationship, as displayed during the annual Endowed Scholarship Luncheon.

On Friday, students and donors gathered at Matthews Ministry Center on the MU campus – giving students an opportunity to thank donors from the community for their contributions to the hundreds of endowed scholarships available to MU students.

A student and a donor talk over lunchMany students had a chance to sit at the same table as the donor directly responsible for their endowed scholarship. Senior Milana Lewis, who is receiving the Richard P. & Elta A. Butler Memorial Scholarship, was one of two students who had an opportunity to speak.

“This scholarship not only helps me as a student now but will continue to help me along my career path,” said Lewis, who is majoring in Kinesiology with a minor in Exercise & Sport Science. “I feel honored and extremely blessed to have the financial assistance this scholarship has provided me – helping me get one step closer towards success. On behalf of the Methodist University student body, thank you to the donors who are instrumental in helping us reach our goals.”

One of the many donors who participated in the luncheon was Grace McGrath, who graciously started the Pay It Forward Endowed Scholarship years ago.

“I started a scholarship because these students are our future,” said McGrath. “To see these young students grow into wonderful human beings is a great thing. This day is so special.”

The Financial Aid Office awards endowed scholarships to full-time degree seeking students who have completed their FAFSA.
