Transferring to any university can feel overwhelming, especially when trying to figure out credit equivalency, application requirements, and balancing the everyday demands of life. For students looking to make a smooth transition, Methodist University Online (MU Online) offers an affordable solution with a flexible schedule and a supportive path to earning a degree.
Whether military-affiliated, a busy working adult, or simply someone who prefers the convenience of remote learning, MU Online is designed with transfer students in mind.
The application process is straightforward. Students fill out the online application and submit their transcripts. Once completed and accepted, the transfer evaluation process begins and can take less than two weeks. MU’s Admissions staff also are currently accepting unofficial transcripts for decisions, making for an even faster decision time.
Following that easy process, the Transfer Services team and MU Online advisor Allison Pierre-Louis help each student apply their eligible previous credits and experiences toward their MU program or major. From there, Pierre-Louis becomes the primary point of contact for all MU Online students throughout their academic journey, making for both a consistent and personalized advising experience, even if a student changes their major or program.
“My role is being a consistent source of support, encouragement and clarity in moments of uncertainty,” Pierre-Louis said. “I aim to help students recognize their potential and feel seen, that’s what makes this so fulfilling for me.”
Transfer credit equivalency and cost are two of the biggest factors in the minds of students exploring transfer opportunities. Students transferring to MU Online are offered a significantly lower tuition rate, making it one of the most cost-effective options in the region. MU Online students qualify for a scholarship of up to $2,000, plus the bonus of overall tuition savings.
Methodist University goes the extra mile in conducting thorough transcript evaluations and accepts a wide range of transfer credits, including military service, job training, and professional certifications. Most MU Online students benefit from the recognition of non-traditional credit evaluations, using documents such as syllabi, certifications, and training records to assess credit eligibility.
“We pride ourselves in transferring as many credits and as much prior learning as possible,” said Jenny Xiong, director of MU Undergraduate Recruiting. “We advocate for our students.”
Considering transferring? Here are some tips to keep in mind:
- Transfer Credits: MU accepts up to 93 total transfer credits, including two-year and four-year degrees, exams, and previous courses.
- Credit for Experience: MU evaluates relevant certifications, training, and life experience for possible academic credit.
- Switching Majors: Students can request a re-evaluation of transfer credits when switching programs.
- Plan Ahead: MU partners with other institutions to help students take the right courses before transferring.
- Residency Matters: Students must complete at least 31 credit hours at MU to earn a degree, regardless of how many credits are transferred in
Xiong encourages prospective transfer students to start the process early.
“Reach out, ask questions and make sure your credits, and your time, are working for you,” she said. By contacting the Admissions or the Transfer team early, students can receive course-planning guidance, determine residency eligibility, and avoid enrolling in classes that may not transfer.
Although MU Online students complete their classes remotely, they remain part of the Monarch community at all times. Online students are welcome to access the many on-campus services and attend campus events whether they are local or visiting.
From individualized support, to students continuing their education after time away, to transitioning from a two-year or four-year institution, MU Online offers a plan with the tools and support to help, the Monarch way.
