Faculty & Staff NSO Volunteers
Volunteer with NSO
We are excited to welcome our incoming students during New Student Orientation (NSO) on August 15, and we need your help to ensure a smooth check-in process. Faculty and staff members play a vital role in creating a welcoming and supportive environment for our students as they begin their journey at our university. Here’s how you can get involved:
August 15
8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. (one-hour blocks available)
Meet at Clark Hall
Volunteer roles include:
- Greeting students and families
- Assisting with registration and information distribution
- Providing directions
- Answering questions and providing guidance
- Distributing packets, shirts, and IDs
Please contact Aly Magras, Director of Campus Engagement at [email protected] to sign up for a volunteer slot and join us in welcoming our incoming students! Your participation and enthusiasm are appreciated in helping create a memorable and successful orientation experience for our newest Monarchs.
Volunteer as a Monarch Mover
Monarch Movers are volunteers from the campus and community who welcome students and families on their first day at MU and assist in moving their personal items into the residence halls. This year, freshman move-in day is Friday, August 15, 2025. It will be hot! But promises to be exciting! And YOU will be the face of comfort, reassurance, and help for eager students and nervous parents! The check-in process for students will look a bit different this Fall, so please review the NSO schedule for a complete listing of events across the campus.
As a Monarch Mover, please plan to arrive no later than 8:30 a.m. and check in with the Religious and Spiritual Life Office in the Matthews Ministry Center for directions to the residence hall where you can be the most help. Coffee, water, and grab-and-go breakfast items will be available upon arrival. Once again, we are pleased to provide t-shirts to each volunteer, as well as lunch in the Green and Gold Cafeteria. We ask that all volunteers wear the Monarch Movers t-shirt as a sign of unity and so that you can be easily identified.
If your department staff is needed in other places on Friday morning of NSO, perhaps you can join the fun and volunteer earlier in the week! We hope to assist and welcome our football team in the same way on Tuesday, August 12, from Noon-2 p.m. Anyone willing and able to help on that date should stop by the Matthews Ministry Center office to get a t-shirt and join us at the Weaver and Garber residence halls to greet families and connect with football players and other athletes arriving for practices. Water bottles and snacks will be provided for all volunteers.
