On Thursday, Oct. 15 between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m., the David McCune International Gallery will open Lady Wisdom: An Exploration of the Divine Feminine in Contemporary Fiber, Pattern, and Abstraction. Curated by Andrew Treague Prieto, assistant professor of Art and Visual Art Exhibitions curator, the exhibition explores the Divine Feminine as a source of knowledge, creativity, and strength.
Through fiber, textiles, painting, printmaking, and abstraction, Lady Wisdom presents pattern as more than decoration, as a form of intelligence and a way of expressing knowledge, identity, spirituality, and connection. The exhibition brings together a multigenerational group of artists, including Anni Albers, Emma Amos, Elizabeth Schmitt, and Sheila Pepe, alongside contemporary artists working across these mediums.
The exhibition also explores the legacy of Black Mountain College in North Carolina, highlighting the influence of its experimental approach to art, design, and interdisciplinary education. Works on loan from The Johnson Collection further contribute to the exhibition.
Lady Wisdom invites the Methodist University and greater Fayetteville communities, including local schools and art educators, to experience contemporary art and consider the many ways wisdom and knowledge can be expressed through creative practice.
Join us for the opening reception on Thursday, Oct 15, from 6–9 p.m. or visit the David McCune International Gallery to experience Lady Wisdom during regular business hours (9 a.m.-5 p.m.) Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and by appointment on Tuesdays and Thursdays through Dec. 4. Students, educators, artists, and community members are invited to explore the exhibition and discover the connections between creativity, knowledge, and the Divine Feminine.
