The Light that Bridges Earth to God’s Heaven
John Dembosky, Ph. D.

“There is no knowing that does not begin with knowing God.”
― John Calvin (AD 1509 – AD 1564)
Have you ever felt something to be distant? Felt it to be something so far away that it is unattainable? Some may say that heaven is so far away that it cannot be seen or even comprehended, ruled by God, who is above all. This distance may appear as uncrossable as the vast spaces among galaxies in our universe. However, God provides a way for to us to observe and study distance worlds that we can never physically touch. He provides the light from those faraway places to travel directly to us here on Earth, where it reveals details about the places it originates.
God uses light as a way to bridge incomprehensible distances and inform us that those extraterrestrial worlds are real, though we can only dream to personally experience them. God has correspondingly provided a way to span the distance between Earth and heaven. Just as light can travel seemingly endless distances from galaxy to galaxy, Christ is the light that bridges Earth to God’s heaven.
God sent his Son, Jesus, to close what may sometimes feel to be an interminable distance between heaven and Earth. Christ is the true, tangible “light” to prove God’s heaven is not only real, but reachable. Christ himself states this as such in the red letters of John 1:51 – “He [Jesus] then added, ‘Very truly, I tell you, you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man.’”
As we pray for God to provide a light unto our path in times of doubt or despair, let us not forget how God blessed us with his Son, the Light of the World, who bridges and illuminates the path to heaven.
Prayer: Lord, when heaven feels distant, remind us that Your light has already come near. Guide our steps through Christ, the Light of the World, until we walk fully in Your presence. Amen.
