Unpacking Religion
Unpacking Religion is a recurring campus event where participants enjoy a boxed dinner and engage in thoughtful, respectful dialogue around topics at the intersection of religion, spirituality, and culture. Students are encouraged to bring their unique voice to the table, from their religious or spiritual tradition (or none at all!) These conversations aim to dispel myths, deepen understanding, and foster love for the richness of all faiths. Unpacking Religion is held three times each semester and open to all. Vegan and vegetarian dinner options are available.
- September 9, 2025: Faith and Mental Health
We will explore how different religious and spiritual traditions understand mental well-being, suffering, and healing. How do faith communities support (or sometimes stigmatize) mental health struggles? - October 2, 2025: Spirituality and the Environment
How do our beliefs shape the way we care for the Earth? This conversation will explore stewardship, sacred nature texts, climate justice, and personal responsibility across traditions. - November 18, 2025: Hospitality and the Stranger
We will consider stories of welcome, exile, and community from various traditions to talk about migration, inclusion, and how we engage with people who are different from us. - January 27, 2026: Sacred Time and Rest
What do different traditions teach about time, rest, and rhythm? From Sabbath to meditation to daily prayer, we will explore how religious practices push back against burnout culture. - February 24, 2026: Faith and Justice
How do our religious values call us to respond to injustice? We will consider justice and peacemaking, guided by sacred texts and lived experiences. - March 24, 2026: Doubt, Faith, and Belonging
To talk about faith, one must also talk about doubt. We will create space to talk about spiritual questions, wrestling with belief, and how doubt can be part of a meaningful faith journey, encouraging honesty and compassion across traditions and identities.
