Admission to Methodist University’s graduate programs can be a highly competitive process, but students enrolled in bachelor’s degree programs at Methodist University are poised to gain a significant advantage.
The “Monarch Momentum” pathways are open to undergraduate students in all majors who are interested in continuing their education in one of Methodist University’s graduate programs. Interested students can join a Monarch Momentum pathway to four programs in the College of Health Sciences & Human Services (Doctor of Physical Therapy, Doctor of Occupational Therapy, M.M.S. in Physician Assistant Studies, and M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling) and the Methodist University Cape Fear Valley Health School of Medicine.
“The Monarch Momentum pathways take the guesswork out of graduate study,” said Meredith Gronski, OTD, OTR/L, CLA, FAOTA, dean of the College of Health Sciences & Human Services. “Students know early where they are headed, they get there faster, and they finish prepared to step into high demand health professions. That combination of access and impact is exactly what we set out to build. I am proud of what this opens for our students and what it means for the healthcare workforce in our region.”
While Methodist University offers this preferred admissions consideration for its own graduates, students applying to one of its graduate programs must meet the same rigorous academic requirements as traditional applicants, including minimum GPA, satisfactory completion of pre-requisite courses, and for some programs, a minimum number of observation or patient care hours. These basic requirements are built into each Monarch Momentum pathway, along with recommended courses tailored to bolster success in each graduate program.
“The liberal arts foundation is built into the pathway, so students do not have to trade depth for direction,” Gronski added. “They still get the broad education that shapes strong thinkers and well-rounded professionals, which matters as much now as it ever has.”
What makes Monarch Momentum unique among admission preference programs is that it offers Methodist University grads a guaranteed admissions interview. Add a solid interview to meeting the admission requirements, and these students have the first opportunity for a seat in their program’s incoming class. While not a guarantee of admission, the guaranteed interview provides the significant competitive advantage that applicants are seeking.
