The University’s first day of classes is a week away as both on-campus and online students will gear up for another semester of success. So, the fresh start begs the question, “What’s new at MU for the 2024-25 academic year?”
There are plenty of new additions coming to Methodist University, and here’s a quick breakdown of a few:
New Crew
Methodist University is expecting to welcome more than 400 new students to campus this fall, registering for many of the University’s on-campus and online programs. Among the group are students from across the U.S. and at least 24 countries, further adding to the University’s diverse and welcoming campus.
New Programs
The University is also launching some new academic programs this semester. Students are now able to declare majors in Environmental Health & Safety, Biology with a concentration in Pre-Medicine, and Biology with a concentration in Pre-Veterinary Medicine. There are also a batch of new minors available to students such as Black Studies, Strategic Communication, and Content Creation. Methodist University is also adding around a dozen new faculty this to start the fall semester.
A Fresh Dining Experience
The MU community will notice some big dining changes when they step foot on campus. Over the summer, Methodist University announced a new partnership with Sodexo Dining Services. Among the additions at the Green & Gold Dining Hall and the rest of campus this year: Just Baked technology, smart vending machines, allergen-free Simple Servings, made-to-order stations, “Monarch Café” (a We Proudly Serve Starbucks location), full-service Chick-fil-A, and a “Monarch Mart” convenience store.
A Spark to CIRCUIT
Once again, Methodist University is offering CIRCUIT, a weekly (Wednesdays) opportunity for students, faculty, and staff to elevate their skills, broaden their perspectives, and nurture their inner growth. However, this year, Monarchs will notice a fresh schedule of events and the introduction of a new series called “First Five 2024”. Primarily geared towards new and incoming students, the series will spend the first five Wednesdays of the semester helping students adjust to their new life on campus. Follow the Events Calendar for up-to-date information on each CIRCUIT event.
Military & Veteran Services
The military and veteran community can better access all of the services offered to them by visiting Methodist University’s new Military & Veteran Center. Located on the lower level of the Berns Students Center, active-duty military, veterans, and their families can visit the centralized location to receive any assistance they may need or simply to relax in the new and comfortable lounge. School of Medicine Groundbreaking
The Methodist University Cape Fear Valley Health School of Medicine is expected to break ground on a $60-plus-million facility this fall with the goal of starting classes in 2026, pending approval by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. The five-story facility will be located on the Cape Fear Valley Health Medical Center campus and feature learning centers, modern classrooms, a student lounge, virtual anatomy lab, patient lab, and more. Head Coach Nods
Two Methodist University interim head coaches received head coaching nods this summer. In men’s tennis, Scott Handback was named the head men’s tennis coach after serving last season as the interim head coach. Handback guided the Monarchs to a 10-7 record in 2023-24 and serves as the director of the Professional Tennis Management (PTM) program. In similar fashion, Angela Culver became the head cheerleading coach after serving as the interim head coach since January. Under Culver’s direction, four members of the Methodist University cheer team were crowned Coed Stunt Division National Champions at the Christian Cheerleaders of America (CCA) Collegiate Championship in March.
