The Student Nurses Association (SNA) is a local chapter of the National Student Nurses Association (NSNA). The NSNA is a nonprofit student organization with 60,000 members in 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Membership to the Methodist University SNA and NSNA is open to all students in programs leading to initial licensure as a registered nurse. There are national, state and local dues.

The mission of the National Student Nurses Association is to bring together and mentor students preparing for initial licensure as registered nurses; to convey the standards and ethics of the nursing profession; promote the development of skills that students will need as responsible and accountable leaders and members of the profession. NSNA advocates for high quality, evidence-based, affordable and accessible health care; contributes to and advocates for advances in nursing education; and strives to develop nursing students who are prepared to lead the profession in the future.

Over 3,000 nursing students from across the country participate in NSNA’s Annual Convention, which features leadership and career development activities, opportunities to listen to renowned nursing leaders, hear about job opportunities and the chance to network with hundreds of other students. The program also includes a state board exam mini review.

The MU Student Nurses Association meets during the school year for business and/or program meetings and opportunities are offered to broaden their nursing education.  Fund-raising projects are planned to provide scholarships for students to attend conventions and to provide a budget for special events. Offices to be filled for MU Student Nurses Association are president, vice‑president, secretary, treasurer, fundraising chairperson, outreach coordinator and the Student Government Association Rep. Faculty from the Department of Nursing serve as faculty advisors.
