As we count down the days to Methodist University’s Spring Commencement on Saturday, there are also a number of significant events leading up to graduation that students, alumni, families, and friends may want to consider. As just a few examples, pinning and medallion ceremonies will take place for the Health Sciences programs and all of campus has the opportunity to celebrate our spring 2022 graduates at Friday’s Baccalaureate.
Specifics on those particular events are as follows:
- The College of Health Sciences and Human Services Nursing Department is hosting the Class of 2022 Pinning Ceremony tonight (6 p.m. at Matthews Chapel). As a tradition that can be traced back to the Crusades of the 12th century, pinning signifies the nursing graduate’s official initiation into the brotherhood and sisterhood of nurses. - The Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) program will honor its graduates through the Class of 2022 Medallion Ceremony on Friday (11 a.m. at Huff Concert Hall). The event celebrates the OTD students who are finishing their third year of the graduate program, propelling them to the next chapter of becoming occupational therapists. - Similarly, the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program will be holding its own Hooding and Medallion Ceremony for the Class of 2022 on Friday (2 p.m. at Huff). Nearly four dozen DPT graduates will be celebrated for their accomplishments as they complete the graduate program and prepare for their upcoming careers. - All of Methodist University’s upcoming graduates will be honored during this year’s Baccalaureate – “A Service of Sending Forth” – on Friday (7 p.m. at Matthews). When asked to characterize the spirit of the Class of 2022, students resoundingly responded with the single word “resilience.” Featured graduates Blythe Best, Daniel Magen, Michael Macias, Cameron McDonald, and Miguelangel Ricardo will share interpretations of resilience through word, music, and testimony. Rev. Dr. Daran Mitchell – a pastor at Trinity AME Zion Church in Greensboro, N.C. and a professor of Pastoral Theology and Preaching at Hood Theological Seminary – will deliver the inspirational sending forth to the Class of 2022.
